JOB
This employee will be responsible for assisting project staff in the operations and pond grow out of numerous species of fish at Bayless Hatchery and Dennis Wildlife Center (DWC).
Job Duties Include:

Assisting with fish culture activities at Bayless Hatchery and DWC.

This includes all culture aspects pertaining to broodstock collection, spawning, pond stocking, fertilization, feeding, water quality monitoring, harvesting, and distribution.

Species to include striped bass, bluegill, redbreast, robust redhorse, channel catfish, tilapia, and American shad.

Notifying supervisor and taking corrective measures in the event of power outage, dissolved oxygen problems or disease issues.

Ensuring that Bayless Hatchery and DWC grounds, culture rearing systems, ponds, tanks and raceways, and buildings are neatly maintained and functioning correctly.

Assisting with pond filling, draining, fertilization and aquatic weed treatments in rearing ponds for phase I striped bass production or phase II grow-out production.

Assisting with all aspects of water quality parameters.

Ensuring fish in rearing ponds are fed properly and assisting with the feeding and upkeep of the fish house.

Assisting other state and federal hatcheries with the harvest and distribution of fish.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES A high school diploma and two (2) years of related experience in wildlife, fisheries or agricultural work; or an associate degree in the technical sciences.
