- Lead the structural design of complex products and systems using CAD/drafting software, applying advanced engineering principles.
- Direct research, design, evaluation, installation, and maintenance of mechanical products, equipment, systems, and processes on technically demanding projects.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for the project team, resolving complex system malfunctions and driving design modifications.
- Lead development and testing of alternate designs and processing methods, evaluating feasibility and risk on novel or first-of-kind applications.
- Direct and oversee aspects of production, including selection of manufacturing methods, fabrication, and product design operation.
- Own specification of system components and lead design reviews to ensure conformance with engineering and performance specifications.
- Partner with the Project Manager (PM) on schedule, budget, and technical risk, and produce comprehensive project control documentation.
- Guide the build team through complex system start-ups, troubleshooting escalated technical issues.
- Mentor and provide technical direction to Mechanical Engineer I and II staff.
- Travel as required to complete project tasks, including customer-facing technical discussions.
- Maintain a strong company presence and trusted technical relationship with customers, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Stay current on emerging developments in mechanical and automation engineering and recommend their application at MWES.
- Comply with all quality and safety regulations.
- Carry out other tasks and assignments as requested by the Mechanical Engineering Manager.
Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Equivalent combination of education and experience considered

10-15 years of related mechanical design with automation experience

Advanced proficiency of CAD/SolidWorks experience required.
Under general supervision of the Mechanical Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Engineer II independently designs, develops, and tests mechanical components, equipment, and machinery for custom automation projects. This role applies solid engineering judgment to moderately complex projects, coordinates directly with customers and vendors, and may provide technical guidance to Mechanical Engineer I staff.
