American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level 1 Trauma facility, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ER experience and at least 6 months of Trauma Level 1 experience.

Acute care hospital Emergency Department, Level 1 Trauma Center

ED has 36 acute beds, 54 subacute beds, and 6 trauma bays
-
High-volume unit seeing approximately 88,000 patients per year (250–300 per day)

Patient population includes trauma, burns, chest pain, spinal cord injuries, and TBI; peds and burn patients are transferred out
-
Unit also manages 30–40 psychiatric holds daily
-
1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio

Charting via Cerner EMR
-
Telemetry monitoring using Philips monitors; ability to read strips required
-
Vents managed by Respiratory Therapy; RT available 24/7
-
Pharmacy available 24/7 with a pharmacist in the ER 10 hours per day

Minimum of 2 MDs (up to 8) plus midlevels and anesthesia in-house

2 Charge RNs on unit; 4 PCTs available for sitters

12-hour day shifts
-
4 weekend shifts required per month, at unit discretion

Holiday coverage based on unit needs

Float may occur mid-shift between up to 4 affiliated facilities approximately 30 minutes apart; personal vehicle required for floating

Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted

Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department RN experience required

Minimum 6 months of Trauma Level 1 experience required

Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS — all must be active; pending certifications not accepted; ENPC is not an acceptable substitute for PALS

Preferred certifications: TNCC and ATCN

Ability to read telemetry strips (Philips monitors)

Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to offer acceptance; two attempts allowed
-
Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
-
Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility within the past year; PRN employment through outside staffing firms is acceptable

Navy scrubs required

Natural hair color required; facial piercings are not permitted

Male nurses must be clean-shaven for mask fit testing

Orientation consists of 2–3 shifts on the floor
-
A pass/fail competency exam is administered on Day 1 of orientation; a study guide is provided in advance

SIMs Lab is required and pass/fail: ED nurses will complete Foley catheter insertion and port-a-cath insertion skills; breaking sterile field during SIMs Lab may result in termination

Additional orientation includes lifts, restraints, and wound care (educational only, not pass/fail)

If a candidate fails the Relias DYS exam or the sterile technique test on the second attempt, they will be ineligible for CommonSpirit AZ facilities for 6 months

Candidates who have not previously traveled are not explicitly welcomed; relevant experience requirements suggest experienced travelers are preferred
