Summary
The Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) Engineer supports the planning, coordination, and execution of electrical construction projects through the use of BIM/VDC technologies and digital modeling processes. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining accurate 3D electrical models, coordinating with project teams and other trades, identifying clashes and constructability issues, and supporting prefabrication and field installation efforts. The VDC Engineer works closely with project managers, field leadership, and clients to improve project efficiency, enhance collaboration, and drive successful project delivery from preconstruction through closeout.
Essential Duties
- 3D Modeling of electrical systems for commercial, industrial, and healthcare buildings
- Perform 3D Model-based coordination amongst other construction trades such as architecture, structural, mechanical, and plumbing
- Provide coordinated 2D shop drawings for field use and pre-fabrication
- Layout and export points to the Remote Total Station for field layout
- Read and understand construction documents
- Review and evaluate new technologies and software
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering preferred
- Autodesk Software experience preferred
- Revit, AutoCAD & Navisworks experience preferred
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, including Electrical Engineers, Project Managers, and field staff
- Ability to manage multiple projects that require organization, time management and problem-solving skills
- Ability to meet critical deadlines
- Ability to be self-motivated, proactive, and an effective team player
- Willing to educate themselves above and beyond training to gain expertise for a long-term position in the construction industry
