As a Grid Automation Customer Service & Repair Technician, you will play an important role in supporting the reliability and performance of critical power grid infrastructure. In this role, you will provide service, support, assessment, troubleshooting, and repair of Grid Automation products and solutions used in protection, control, automation, and communications applications. Working closely with customers and regional Grid Automation teams, you will investigate equipment issues, restore devices to operational condition, perform testing and calibration activities, and support product evaluations and demonstrations. You will apply your knowledge of electronics, electrical systems, diagnostics, and testing practices to identify faults and recommend corrective actions. In addition to supporting repair activities, you will help prepare and configure automation equipment used in substation and distribution automation applications. This role offers the opportunity to expand your knowledge of modern grid automation technologies while contributing to dependable utility and industrial operations through high-quality technical support and equipment service.
- Assess, inspect, and troubleshoot returned devices, prototypes, and test equipment to identify faults and restore equipment performance.
- Perform repairs, adjustments, and corrective actions on electronic equipment used in Grid Automation applications.
- Conduct power, voltage, communications, calibration, and functional testing on repaired equipment and assemblies.
- Provide regional customer support, responding to technical service requests and assisting with application triage activities.
- Support software and hardware field upgrades through remote assistance and onsite service activities when required.
- Build, configure, test, and modify substation and distribution automation equipment for diagnostics and demonstration purposes.
- Assist regional operations teams with management of customer return material authorization (RMA) activities and backlog support.
- Maintain equipment logs, calibration records, maintenance documentation, and qualification test records to support quality and traceability.
- Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
- Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
- Associate’s degree in Electronics Technology or graduation from a technical school, or 8 years equivalent work experience.
- 3–5 years of experience testing, troubleshooting, and repairing electronic equipment, with demonstrated knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and mathematical fundamentals.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical drawings, and product specification sheets.
- Experience using computers and related software tools to support testing, diagnostics, and repair activities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of electronics theory, diagnostic techniques, equipment assessment, and electronic equipment repair.
- Industry experience with grid automation protection, control, automation, and communication equipment is preferred, including familiarity with communication devices, IEDs, gateways, HMI platforms, and control software used in Grid Automation solutions.
