SML Packaging Solutions builds custom machinery for glass and bottling plants. We are a growing, hands-on company focused on building real equipment that works on the production floor—not just in CAD.
The Role
We are looking for a hands-on Mechanical Engineer who is just as comfortable in the shop as they are in front of a computer.
If you prefer sitting at a desk all day, this is not the job.
You will design equipment, work directly with machinists, troubleshoot issues, and make sure what you design actually works in the real world.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Design custom machinery and components using CAD (BricsCAD, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.)
- Create practical, buildable drawings for the shop
- Work side-by-side with machinists and welders to bring designs to life
- Troubleshoot and fix issues on the shop floor
- Improve designs to reduce cost, simplify builds, and eliminate rework
- Help assemble and test machines when needed
- Build and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs)
What We’re Looking For
- Mechanical Engineering degree OR strong real-world experience
- 3+ years designing machinery or industrial equipment
- Strong CAD skills, Inventor a must
- Experience with mechanical systems (pneumatics, cylinders, linkages, etc.)
- Ability to design parts that are easy to machine, weld, and assemble
- Willingness to get your hands dirty and be in the shop daily
- Problem solver who can think on their feet
- Travel to customers when needed
Big Plus If You Have
- Experience with packaging, bottling, or automation equipment
- Experience working in a machine shop or fabrication environment
- Ability to quickly troubleshoot and modify designs in real time
