The Harford Center, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides services and supports to adults with disabilities.
We have provided programming to adults with disabilities since 1961. Since our inception, we have focused on providing the best care while respecting each person’s individuality, choice and needs. The Harford Center is unique in that it provides services to an array of individuals from those needing high-end medical care to those who are actively seeking employment. All individuals receive support in exploring their interests so that they can live independent, satisfying lives. The staff at the Harford Center act as advocates, supports, and mentors to guide individuals to be their own advocates and seek the lives that they desire.

The Direct Support Professional is directly responsible for:
- Coordinate and schedule an individual’s day based on their interests and goals.
- Help individuals achieve desired outcomes from community and pre-vocational activities.
- Act as an advocate for all individuals supported.
- Actively participate in annual planning meetings for individuals supported.
- Create appropriate objectives and outcomes for each individual supported.
- Develop, implement, and document progress to help individuals reach their goals.
- Work with individuals to find and help them use community based resources to achieve their personal outcomes.
- Ensure individuals personal needs are met with dignity and respect.
- Promote health and safety for all individuals served in all settings and activities.
- Maintain daily case notes that are detailed and accurate.
- Safely transport individuals to and from facility in center vehicles.
- Obey all traffic rules and regulations.
- Follow time schedules in a safe manner.
- Maintain mileage sheets on a daily basis.
- Assist loading and unloading of individuals.
Education & Experience
- Must pass a drug screen.
- Must have a current drivers license with less than 2 points on your driving record. (no DUI or DWI)
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Possess a positive attitude with a professional presentation and the ability to work in a team environment.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft products.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to maneuver a wheelchair and use wheelchair restraints when appropriate.
- Ability to drive a 15 passenger van or mini bus.
- Must be 21 years of age or older to drive agency vehicles.
