Duties
- Assist the dentist during various pediatric dental procedures, including exams, cleanings, restorations, and orthodontic treatments using four-handed dentistry techniques.
- Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments, materials, and supplies while maintaining aseptic techniques and infection control protocols.
- Take and develop dental X-rays and medical imaging, ensuring proper positioning and safety measures are followed.
- Record detailed medical documentation, including vital signs, medical records, and dental terminology in electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix.
- Educate young patients and their guardians on oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions in an engaging manner.
- Manage patient flow as a dental receptionist by scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage under HIPAA guidelines, and maintaining accurate medical coding.
- Operate dental equipment like 3D scanners and perform routine sterilization procedures to uphold the highest standards of infection control within the clinic.
Requirements
- Prior experience working in a dental clinic setting with pediatric patients is highly preferred.
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Open Dental, Eaglesoft or Dentrix; familiarity with Epic is a plus.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
- Strong understanding of dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, taking X-rays, vital signs measurement, and medical documentation.
- Ability to communicate effectively using dental terminology and medical terminology relevant to pediatrics.
- Knowledge of anatomy related to oral structures and infection control practices within a clinical environment.
