Job Description
Piedmont Metals is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Industrial Painter to join our production team. This role is responsible for preparing, painting, and finishing structural steel and metal components using industrial coatings and airless spray equipment. The Industrial Painter ensures all finished products meet customer specifications, company quality standards, and production schedules while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
The ideal candidate has experience with industrial coatings, enjoys hands-on work, and takes pride in producing durable, high-quality finishes in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare steel and metal surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, grinding, masking, and applying primers as required.
- Apply industrial primers, paints, and specialty coatings using airless spray equipment and other approved application methods.
- Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and project specifications to determine coating requirements.
- Inspect painted surfaces to ensure proper coverage, finish quality, and compliance with customer specifications.
- Perform touch-up work, refinishing, and minor surface repairs as needed.
- Safely operate spray equipment, hand tools, and power tools used in surface preparation and painting.
- Maintain spray equipment, paint booths, and tools in clean and working condition.
- Properly mix, store, and dispose of paints, coatings, solvents, and other hazardous materials.
- Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental requirements.
- Collaborate with production personnel to meet quality expectations and production schedules.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum one (1) year of industrial, commercial, automotive, or manufacturing painting experience.
- Experience using airless spray-painting equipment.
- Knowledge of surface preparation methods, including cleaning, sanding, grinding, filling, and priming.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality finishes.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2)+ years of industrial painting or metal finishing experience.
- Experience painting structural steel or fabricated metal products.
- Experience working in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- Knowledge of industrial coatings, primers, epoxies, urethanes, and specialty finishes.
- Experience with minor surface repairs, restoration, or refinishing.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proficiency in airless spray-painting techniques and equipment.
- Knowledge of industrial coating systems, primers, and finishing products.
- Strong understanding of surface preparation methods.
- Basic math skills for measurements and material estimation.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safe handling of paints, chemicals, and solvents.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing production priorities while maintaining quality standards.
- Reliable, organized, and safety-focused approach to work.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach throughout the workday.
- Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely operate spray equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
- Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including respirators, gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, protective clothing, and steel-toed boots.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures and manufacturing environments with exposure to heat, cold, dust, paint fumes, chemicals, and noise.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors as business needs require.
