POSITION SUMMARY
The Legal Assistant serves as a primary in-person point of contact for clients visiting the Barrales Law office. The Legal Assistant ensures timely, accurate, and secure handling of sensitive materials and clear communication with clients and the legal team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Communicate with clients to request, collect, and follow up on required documentation
- Organize and maintain digital and physical case files.
- Track document requests and deadlines to ensure timely submissions
- Enter and update case information in case management systems
- Compile, assemble, print, and scan application packets for submission to USCIS and EOIR
- Coordinate court docket submissions and track filing deadlines
- Provide support to the reception/front desk as needed, including greeting clients
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
- Provide general administrative support to attorneys and the legal team
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Strong client service skills; professional, courteous, and clear communicator (in person, phone, email)
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail under time-sensitive conditions
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion
- Proficiency with office software, scanners, printers, and case management systems
- Commitment to immigrant rights and community-centered legal work
Preferred:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (strongly preferred for direct client work)
- Prior experience in a legal office, court filing, or client-facing administrative role
- Familiarity with USCIS forms, EOIR processes, or immigration case types
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates in a professional office environment and may require occasional overtime to meet deadlines. This is a full-time, in-person role at our East Boston office.
