What You Will Do
As an Unemployment Compensation Administrative Hearing Officer , your job duties include but are not limited to:

Conducts administrative law hearings for the lower authority to determine why an individual was separated from employment & whether an individual is entitled to unemployment benefits, explains hearing procedure & advises parties of their rights, administers oath & oversees taking of testimony (e.g. decides from which witnesses to take testimony, directly questions each of those witnesses, oversees each parties' additional direct testimony & cross examination, assists parties in cross-examination when appropriate, secures stipulations, answers questions & interprets policies & procedures, rules on motions & objections, determines admissibility of evidence).

Conducts legal research in preparation for hearings (e.g. reviews Director's files & all additional documents & exhibits, ensures that parties & issues are correctly identified & notified)

Confers with parties regarding scheduling & continuances, authorizes issuance of subpoenas, writes decisions (e.g. reviews evidence, researches legal issues, types or dictates decisions).
Schedule: Part-Time. The Commission's expectation is that the employee work 39 hours a week.
Hours: Standard workdays are Monday through Friday but may be required to work evenings. Hours are between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Location: This position will be headquartered at Rhodes State Officer Tower - 30 E. Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43215
Travel: For training purposes and required Program Area meetings, occasional travel will be required.

Pay Information
This position is in the State of Ohio’s OCSEA Pay Schedule, Pay Range 34, currently $38.01 per hour.

Intermittent information
This is an intermittent, temporary position, as such it is not eligible for benefits. The final candidate selected for this position will not be permitted to exceed 1,000 hours worked per fiscal year (July 1st - June 30th). This position is Unclassified per ORC 124.11(A) (29).
