Position Summary
At Ocean Mist, our Barbacks are the backbone of our bar operation. Our bartenders serve hundreds of guests each shift, and the Barback plays a vital role in keeping the bar stocked, organized, clean, and operating efficiently.
This position requires energy, urgency, teamwork, and attention to detail. A successful Barback anticipates the needs of the bartenders, works quickly without sacrificing quality, and helps create an exceptional guest experience behind the scenes.
Essential Responsibilities
Bar Support
- Keep all bars fully stocked with beer, liquor, wine, mixers, garnishes, ice, cups, and supplies throughout each shift.
- Refill ice bins frequently and safely.
- Change beer kegs quickly and efficiently.
- Restock coolers and liquor bottles before and during service.
- Prepare garnishes, juices, and other bar ingredients.
- Maintain clean and organized workstations for bartenders.
Operations
- Wash glassware as needed.
- Keep storage areas organized and well stocked.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate shortages to management.
- Assist with opening, closing, and side work duties.
- Follow all sanitation, food safety, and responsible alcohol service standards.
Teamwork
- Anticipate bartender needs before they ask.
- Communicate effectively with bartenders, managers, kitchen staff, and fellow support staff.
- Maintain a positive attitude while working under pressure.
- Assist other departments when business demands require.
Qualifications
- Strong work ethic with a sense of urgency.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a high-volume environment.
- Dependable, punctual, and reliable.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and special events.
- Previous restaurant or bar experience is preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds, including beer kegs, cases of beverages, and ice.
- Stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.
- Work quickly in crowded, fast-paced environments.
- Safely navigate wet floors and busy service areas.
