Experienced Criminal Defense Legal Assistant / Legal Representative

Vargas Law Firm is seeking an experienced Bilingual Criminal Defense Legal Assistant / Legal Representative (English/Spanish) to immediately join our Criminal Defense Department.
This is NOT an entry-level position. We are looking for a professional who can begin handling cases with minimal training and who has extensive, recent experience working in a busy Texas criminal defense law firm.
Mandatory Qualifications
To be considered, you MUST meet EVERY requirement below:
- Minimum 2 years of RECENT and VERIFIABLE criminal defense experience.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish).
- Experience handling criminal cases in Harris County, Fort Bend County, Montgomery County, and other Texas counties.
- Experience managing felony and misdemeanor cases from beginning to end.
- Experience with DWI, PTI (Pretrial Intervention), probation violations, dismissals, plea negotiations, and other criminal proceedings.
- Extensive experience preparing criminal motions and court filings.
- Experience reviewing and organizing discovery, police reports, body camera footage, dash camera videos, laboratory reports, witness statements, and other evidence.
- Experience maintaining attorneys' court calendars, scheduling hearings, monitoring deadlines, and coordinating client appointments.
- Experience filing documents through Texas eFile (eFileTexas).
- Experience using MyCase case management software.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
- Professional, dependable, responsible, and committed to long-term employment.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States.
Compensation
- Full-time position (40 hours per week).
- Compensation is based on the applicant's recent, verifiable experience, qualifications, and overall skill level.
