Surgical Technician - Per Diem Position (6 to10 Hour Shifts)
We are seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist with hands-on experience in ophthalmic surgery, specifically cataract procedures. Familiarity with additional eye surgeries, such as pterygium excisions, and DMEK/DSAEK is highly desirable.
Job Responsibilities:
- Support the operating room team by organizing and managing the surgical environment to ensure compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards, as well as facility policies.
- Assist nurses and physicians in providing the highest standard of care for ophthalmology patients.
- Work closely with surgeons, anticipating needs and preparing specialized ophthalmic equipment and instruments for each procedure.
- Ensure all surgical equipment is operational before use, troubleshooting any issues that arise.
- Keep the surgical suites clean, organized, and stocked with the necessary supplies.
Minimum Requirements:
- Experience in the operating room, ideally in a hospital or ambulatory surgery center setting with a focus on ophthalmology.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Proof of identity and legal right to work in the United States.
Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to collaborate professionally within a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated proficiency in handling standard surgical instruments, ophthalmic equipment, and instrument sterilization processes.
- Strong organizational skills, with an ability to anticipate surgeon needs based on patient care and physician preference cards.
- Capable of working efficiently, managing multiple tasks, and adapting to changes in the surgical schedule.
- Strong understanding of Sterile Processing Department (SPD) practices – Skilled in proper cleaning, sterilization, assembly, and tracking of surgical instruments to ensure patient safety and support efficient OR operations.
Schedule:
Per diem hours vary based on our surgical schedule, typically Monday-Thursday from 0630-1600.
