Medical Billing Specialist
Tulsa, OK | Monday–Friday | Full-Time | Onsite | $19.00–$23.00/hour DOE | Temp-to-Hire
Our client is seeking an experienced Medical Billing Specialist to join their growing healthcare team in Tulsa. This is a 100% onsite position offering normal business hours and the opportunity to become a long-term member of a collaborative, patient-focused organization.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the medical billing and revenue cycle process, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to efficiently manage claims, insurance follow-up, and accounts receivable while maintaining accuracy and productivity.

Essential Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and submit electronic medical claims to insurance carriers.
- Scrub claims for accuracy prior to submission through the clearinghouse.
- Follow up on outstanding insurance claims to ensure timely reimbursement.
- Research and resolve denied, rejected, and underpaid claims.
- Work aging accounts receivable to reduce outstanding balances.
- Process insurance payments, adjustments, and account corrections.
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits when necessary.
- Communicate with insurance carriers regarding claim status, payment discrepancies, and appeals.
- Submit appeals and supporting documentation for denied claims.
- Maintain accurate documentation within the billing system and electronic medical records.
- Collaborate with providers, coders, and office staff to resolve billing discrepancies.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and payer guidelines.
- Meet productivity and quality standards while managing multiple priorities.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of recent medical billing experience in a physician office, specialty clinic, or healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of the medical billing and revenue cycle process.
- Experience working with Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and managed care plans.
- Familiarity with claim denials, appeals, insurance follow-up, and accounts receivable.
- Experience using electronic medical records (EMR) and medical billing software.
- Knowledge of electronic claim submission, EDI transactions, and clearinghouses.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team environment.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specialty physician billing.
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding principles.
- Experience with payment posting and insurance verification.
- Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or related certification is a plus.
