Job Overview

Duties
- Develop comprehensive curriculum plans aligned with grade-level standards, incorporating creative writing, journalism, and literacy education techniques
- Design engaging lessons that incorporate instructional design principles, learning technology tools, and research-based strategies to enhance student learning
- Provide clear instruction on AP style, Chicago Manual of Style, and proofreading techniques to ensure high-quality writing outputs
- Mentor students in developing their writing skills through individualized feedback, tutoring sessions, and classroom activities
- Implement classroom management strategies to foster a positive learning environment conducive to active participation and collaboration
- Assess student progress through standardized testing preparation, formative assessments, and portfolio reviews
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, instructional strategies, and school-wide initiatives to promote literacy excellence
Experience
- Prior classroom experience teaching 6th grade or equivalent at a private or public school setting
- Demonstrated expertise in curriculum development for writing, literacy education, and creative writing projects
- Strong knowledge of AP style, Chicago Manual of Style, linguistics, and research methodologies related to journalism and language arts
- Proven ability to work with diverse learners including those requiring special education accommodations or behavior management support
- Experience integrating educational technology tools for instruction and assessment purposes
- Higher education teaching or tutoring experience in writing or language arts is preferred
- Excellent communication skills coupled with organizational skills necessary for lesson planning and instructional delivery
