Job Description
Located in Freeport, IL, NCS Youth Home is a Qualified Residential Treatment Program. We work hands-on with female adolescents in a behavioral mental health setting. The youth live here and receive intensive mental health and behavioral health treatment. The goal of the treatment program is to help youth change behavior. Our goal is to prepare youth for a less restrictive discharge placement of a group home, foster home, or family home. Youth present with mental health diagnoses including: conduct disorder, bipolar disorder, depression, PTSD, oppositional defiant disorder, and other trauma-based disorders. Holding youth accountable for actions, helping in the development of coping skills, improving interpersonal skills, and empowering independence and confidence is the goal of the program. Caring for self and others are the two rules of the NCS program.
We are searching for motivated Direct Support Professionals (Youth Counselors) to help direct youth in changing their behaviors.
Full-Time 2nd shift typically positions work 9-12 hour shifts, we well as weekends, on a rotating basis.
The main responsibilities of a Direct Support Professional for first/second shifts include: Providing a safe environment and ongoing supervision
Direct supervision of youth
Assigning positive and negative consequences for youth behavior
Respond to crisis
Assisting utilization of coping skills
Addressing behavioral problems
Teaching basic life skills
Assisting residents with appointments, activities, chores, phone calls/visitations, etc.
Exceptional written/grammar skills are required. Good observation and communication skills are essential.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must have a relevant human services Bachelor's Degree.
Must be physically capable of participating in the containment of adolescents that are endangering the safety of self, others or damaging property (specifically, lifting 50 pounds and demonstrating the ability to perform the restraint techniques as defined by the National Crisis Institute, after trained). Must be available to be available 2-3x/month for direct care on-call responsibilities if necessary.
