A Public Safety Officer will maintain security and safety of people and property in assigned area(s) on university campus facilities via foot and mobile patrol enforcing university rules and regulations.
- Patrols assigned areas checking for possible crime and/or safety hazards and suspicious activity or people.

Investigates and/or reports hazards, unusual or suspicious circumstances for correction or follow-up actions.

Checks doors and windows of buildings to ensure they are properly secured; documents matters that could compromise any areas of campus safety and/or security and submits information to supervisor.

Observes activity and traffic in assigned areas to enforce university rules/regulations; alerts campus community members and visitors of infractions.

Provides motor vehicle escorts as assigned.

Responds to alarms and dispatched calls; decides what actions to take based on situational training, facts known and position limitations.

Services building openings and closings as per assignment.

Parking patrol to ensure safety, security and parking compliance as per university policy.

Issuing tickets/citations for parking violations.

Assist with crowd control, traffic control and surveillance at public events as assigned.

Works with members of the Department and University community in defining and implementing problem-solving techniques related to patrol operations.

Assists with identification of problems related to campus crime trends and/or safety measures for improvement of campus safety and security efforts.

Attends, assists with and/or instructs educational safety and security programs as requested.

Responds to emergencies and incidents to provide assistance.

Maintains discipline and adherence to all Department and University rules, regulations, orders, directives and policies.

Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed and/or assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
May be called upon to supervise events and work with and assign Student Ambassadors to related positions. Assists Ambassadors with calls and questions they may have during events.

2. Attention to detail.
3. Strong communication skills (written and oral).
4. Knowledge of basic security processes and operational procedures.
5. Ability to conclusively monitor audible and visual security alarms and systems.
6. Motor vehicle operations (SOS background check required).
7. Working knowledge of MS Office software package (Word, Excel).
8. Working knowledge of information systems software.
9. Must also possess ability to lift/move objects or people, unaided, a minimum of 70 lbs.
10. Maintain calm demeanor under stressful conditions.
11. Physically capable of climbing stairs and performing foot patrol.
EDUCATION
High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor’s Degree in Safety/Criminal Justice field preferred.
1 year experience in safety, security or related field preferred; Or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
The salary for this position is $15.18 per hour.
