Highway Engineer
Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Civil Roadway/Highway Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, designing, and delivering roadway and highway infrastructure projects that meet client expectations, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. This role requires strong technical knowledge, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, and a commitment to producing high-quality engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design roadway and highway projects, including geometric layouts, intersections, drainage systems, and pavement improvements.
- Prepare engineering plans, specifications, technical reports, and construction cost estimates.
- Utilize engineering software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, and other applicable design tools.
- Perform engineering calculations and analyses in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local design standards.
- Coordinate with project managers, clients, government agencies, and multidisciplinary design teams throughout all phases of project development.
- Support permitting, environmental compliance, and utility coordination efforts.
- Review construction documents and respond to contractor requests for information during construction.
- Conduct field visits and site inspections to verify existing conditions and monitor project progress.
- Ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with quality and safety standards.
- Mentor junior engineering staff and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
- Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
- (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain
- Experience in roadway or highway design and transportation engineering.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer, or similar engineering software.
- Knowledge of applicable transportation design standards, including state DOT and AASHTO guidelines.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a collaborative environment.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
