Position Summary
The Prep Cook is responsible for preparing ingredients and food components used in the restaurant’s menu items, supporting kitchen operations by ensuring that ingredients are properly prepared, portioned, and organized before service begins. This role plays a critical part in maintaining efficiency and consistency in the kitchen by ensuring that all products required for the preparation of tacos, meats, sauces, and other menu items are ready for cooking and service.
The Prep Cook works closely with the kitchen team to maintain high standards of food quality, sanitation, and operational efficiency in a high-volume restaurant environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesIngredient Preparation
- Wash, chop, slice, and prepare vegetables, meats, and other ingredients according to company recipes and preparation standards.
- Portion ingredients accurately for use during service.
- Prepare sauces, marinades, salsas, and other food components used in menu items.
Kitchen Support
- Assist grill cooks, line cooks, and kitchen leadership by ensuring ingredients are available and properly prepared.
- Maintain organized storage of prepped ingredients.
- Replenish ingredients during service as needed.
Food Quality & Consistency
- Follow recipes and preparation guidelines to ensure consistent product quality.
- Ensure that ingredients are prepared according to portion control and presentation standards.
Food Safety & Sanitation
- Follow proper food handling and sanitation procedures in accordance with health department regulations.
- Maintain clean and organized workstations at all times.
- Ensure proper labeling, dating, and rotation of food products.
Operational Efficiency
- Prepare ingredients in advance to support efficient kitchen operations.
- Assist with opening and closing kitchen preparation tasks.
- Support team members during busy service periods when necessary.
Required Qualifications
- Previous kitchen or food preparation experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of food safety and kitchen sanitation practices.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Required Certifications
- Florida Food Handler Certification.
- Food Protection Manager Certification preferred (ServSafe or equivalent).
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand for extended periods during operational shifts.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs when handling kitchen supplies or food products.
- Ability to work in fast-paced kitchen environments.
Work Environment
