SUMMARY
We are seeking a skilled Technical Writer to review, update, and refine our multi-year Strategic and Program Plans. Our organization focuses on health equity building our readiness for environmental priorities, including climate resilience, food access, and green housing. The ideal candidate will transform our existing plans with supportive environmental data, program metrics, and organizational goals into a cohesive, highly professional, and actionable document for internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and Audit: Evaluate the existing strategic and program plan for clarity, consistency, tone, and alignment with environmental goals.
- Content Synthesis: Analyze and synthesize input, data, and feedback from program directors, and leadership into well-structured text.
- Drafting and Editing: Write, edit, and proofread plan sections, ensuring a professional voice that resonates with donors, partners, and board members.
- Data Clarification: Translate technical environmental concepts, policy jargon, and scientific data into accessible, clear language.
- Formatting and Structure: Ensure logical flow, consistent formatting, and clear visual organization (e.g., charts, bullet points, headers) throughout the document.
Qualifications
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience in strategic planning, program planning, technical writing and development, preferably within the nonprofit or environmental sectors.
- Environmental Knowledge: Strong familiarity with environmental issues, sustainability, or conservation policy is highly preferred.
- Communication Skills: Exceptional writing, structural editing, and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Project Management: Ability to work independently, manage timelines, and incorporate feedback from multiple stakeholders effectively.
- Tools: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and document collaboration tools.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or comparable experience.
- Areas of study may include nonprofit management, business management, or a related field.
- Prior experience in a related field required.

- Technological Proficiency: Comfortable using Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail, Zoom, and Meet) or similar programs, and able to learn new platforms and tools like Quickbooks Time or others as needed. Knowledge of Wix website building is a plus.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to produce accurate, high-quality work, especially when assisting with scheduling, communications, and data entry.
- Team Collaboration: Willingness to work collaboratively and respectfully with a small, mission-focused team; open to feedback and eager to learn.
- Adaptability: Flexible and resourceful when dealing with changes in priorities, schedules, or project needs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods and lift up to 20 lbs occasionally.
- May involve evenings and weekends for events.
- This is a remote position. Technical Writer Contractor is expected to maintain a productive and professional remote work environment and have reliable internet access. Occasional in-person attendance may be required for meetings or events.
