Position Overview
Mountain West Industrial (MWI) is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to oversee safety operations on a major construction project in Eagle Mountain, Utah. The Safety Manager will be responsible for maintaining a strong jobsite safety culture, ensuring compliance with OSHA standards, and working closely with supervisors, foremen, and craft employees to identify and eliminate workplace hazards.
This is a hands-on position for a safety professional who is comfortable working in an active industrial construction environment and taking ownership of jobsite safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and enforce MWI's site-specific safety program.
- Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA construction standards and regulations.
- Conduct daily jobsite safety inspections and hazard assessments.
- Identify unsafe conditions and implement corrective actions.
- Conduct and document toolbox talks, safety meetings, orientations, and training.
- Monitor fall protection, PPE, scaffolding, ladders, cranes, rigging, excavation, electrical safety, and other construction activities.
- Review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and pre-task planning.
- Maintain accurate safety records, inspections, incident reports, and training documentation.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions and recommend corrective measures.
- Work directly with project management, supervisors, foremen, subcontractors, and employees to maintain safety expectations.
- Stop work when an immediate safety hazard exists and ensure hazards are corrected before work resumes.
- Assist with emergency response procedures and maintain jobsite emergency plans.
- Ensure employees are properly trained and qualified for assigned tasks and equipment.
- Promote a proactive safety culture and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Safety Manager, Site Safety Manager, Safety Coordinator, or similar construction safety position.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA construction standards.
- Construction or industrial safety experience preferred.
- Experience working around heavy equipment, steel erection, cranes, rigging, and other high-risk construction activities preferred.
- Strong understanding of hazard identification and risk assessment.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Strong documentation, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of jobsite safety.
- OSHA 30-hour Construction certification preferred.
- Additional safety certifications such as competent-person training and First Aid/CPR are a plus.
