Applications are now being accepted for the School Resource Officer (SRO) position in the City of Fairfax Police Department from applicants who are currently Virginia Certified Police Officers with law enforcement experience. Applicants must provide a portfolio of their training and skills, showing an ability to successfully investigate both administrative discipline incidents and criminal cases within an educational setting. Highly Qualified candidate(s) will be given an oral interview, a conditional job offer, a background investigation, a polygraph examination, a physical examination and a psychological examination. After successful completion of the process, a final interview with the Chief of Police will be scheduled.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Assigned to the Community Services Division. Performs both general duty police work and school related safety and security work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances of the City and Commonwealth of Virginia. Patrols a designated area of the City or an assigned school facility to preserve law and order and to prevent and discover the commission of crime, to direct traffic, to enforce motor vehicle operation laws, and conduct criminal investigations. Maintains records and prepares reports. Assist the Patrol Division when needed and perform all other duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Assigned work schedule is a Monday-Friday shift lasting between 8-9 hours with flexibility to take off on school holidays and the spring, summer and winter breaks.
Rotating shift work, including nights, weekends and holidays may occur in some instances.
