Position Title: Maintenance Technician
Summary
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance, safety, and operational readiness of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church campus, including the main church building, the Susanna Wesley building, and surrounding grounds. This position ensures that all facilities are properly maintained to support worship services, ministry activities, rentals, and community use.
This role is essential to providing a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for congregants, staff, volunteers, renters, and visitors. The Maintenance Technician must demonstrate strong organizational skills, sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. The position requires initiative, effective communication skills, and the ability to identify and resolve maintenance issues in a timely and professional manner.
Although much of the work is performed independently, this position functions as part of a collaborative staff team and is expected to maintain positive and professional working relationships with church leadership, staff, volunteers, and members of the public.
General Information
- Reports to (Day-to-Day Supervision): Office & Facilities Coordinator (OFC) for assignment of tasks, prioritization of projects, and operational direction.
- Employment Supervision: Staff-Parish Relations Committee (SPRC) and Senior Pastor
- Additional Support: Trustee member/volunteer with knowledge of building systems and campus operations
- Hours: 12 hours per week, year-round
- Compensation: $20.00 per hour
- Benefits: Sick leave, vacation, and holidays (accrued based on hours worked)
- Meetings: Attendance required at Trustees meetings (third Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m.)
Duties and Responsibilities
- Review and maintain familiarity with the Facilities Maintenance Manual and the Trustees’ Project List.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repair work, including but not limited to repair of windows, doors, walls, lighting fixtures, painting, and basic carpentry tasks.
- Replace light bulbs and fixtures as necessary.
- Repair or coordinate repair of damaged or malfunctioning equipment and building components.
- Conduct periodic inspections of electrical and plumbing systems; promptly notify supervisor when licensed contractors are required.
- Identify and remediate safety hazards within buildings and on campus grounds.
- Maintain clear and safe entryways and walkways, including sweeping, debris removal, leaf blowing, and snow removal as needed.
- Monitor campus grounds to ensure cleanliness and general upkeep.
- Maintain awareness of applicable fire codes, safety regulations, and local, state, and federal compliance requirements.
- Enforce and adhere to church policies regarding facility usage and campus security, including unauthorized use or extended parking situations.
- Assist with janitorial duties as needed and as workload permits.
- Provide facility support for worship services, church events, and external rentals as requested.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- General maintenance and repair experience required.
- Basic working knowledge of building systems, including electrical and plumbing.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Demonstrated safety awareness and sound judgment.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Trade certifications or specialized training in electrical, plumbing, or carpentry preferred but not required.
Condition of Employment
- Successful completion of a criminal background check is required prior to employment.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
