Position Summary
I Heart Oakland Alameda Estuary (IHOAE) is seeking an organized and enthusiastic Community Cleanup Project Consultant to provide project support for our Community Estuary Cleanup Program. This contract engagement will focus on coordinating shoreline cleanup events, supporting volunteer engagement, assisting with citizen science activities, and supporting outreach and communications efforts related to environmental stewardship throughout the Oakland Estuary.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with the community, organizing environmental projects, and contributing to measurable positive impacts in the Oakland Estuary.
Scope of Work:
Event Coordination
+ Coordinate logistics for large community cleanup events, along with smaller volunteer cleanup activities.
+ Support event planning, including supplies, safety information, volunteer communication, registration, and event setup.
+ Provide onsite event support and coordination during cleanup activities.
Volunteer and Community Engagement
+ Support volunteer outreach and communication related to cleanup activities.
+ Assist with educational activities that encourage environmental stewardship and community participation.
Citizen Science and Data Collection
+ Assist with shoreline debris surveys and cleanup data collection.
+ Help organize and compile project data for reports and grant-related documentation.
+ Support community-based environmental monitoring activities.
Outreach and Communications
+ Assist with Eventbrite listings and registration, social media, and newsletters.
+ Work with IHOAE to share educational content to increase awareness of estuary protection and community involvement.
+ Document cleanup activities through impact summaries and project updates.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience coordinating community events, volunteer programs, or environmental projects.
+ Strong organizational and communication skills.
+ Interest in environmental stewardship and community engagement.
+ Experience working with volunteers, students, or community organizations is a plus.
+ Familiarity with citizen science or environmental education.
+ Kayaking experience is a plus.
+ Ability to manage multiple objectives, prioritize tasks, and work independently.
+ Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Contract Details:
+ Independent contract engagement.
+ Up to approximately 10 hours per week, depending on project needs and scheduled events.
+ Initial contract period through Fall 2026.
+ Opportunity for additional project work as the organization grows and funding becomes available.

Pay: $27.00 - $35.00 per hour
