Job Title: Inspection & Service Sales Representative (ISR/SSR)
Department: Sales
Job Summary
The Inspection & Service Sales Representative (ISR/SSR) is a combined sales role responsible for growing DFS Fire Systems' full range of fire and life safety revenue; from new recurring inspection agreements through the deficiency-driven repair, retrofit, and upgrade work that inspections uncover. This role manages the complete customer sales cycle within an assigned territory: prospecting and closing new inspection, testing, and maintenance (ITM) contracts, then converting the resulting code deficiencies and system findings into sold service, repair, and monitoring business.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prospect, cold call, canvass, and network to generate new business for inspection, testing, and maintenance (ITM) agreements within an assigned territory.
- Conduct on-site surveys of fire alarm, sprinkler, extinguisher, emergency lighting, and kitchen suppression systems to identify sales opportunities.
- Prepare and present proposals for new inspection agreements, and negotiate and close contracts to meet or exceed sales quotas.
- Review inspection reports and deficiency findings, both self-generated and from the broader inspection team, to identify repair, retrofit, replacement, and upgrade opportunities.
- Meet with customers to explain code deficiencies and recommend appropriate repair, retrofit, replacement, or monitoring solutions.
- Prepare detailed and accurate estimates and proposals for both inspection agreements and service/repair projects, coordinating scope and pricing with service, installation, and engineering teams as needed.
- Educate customers on applicable NFPA codes, local fire codes, and AHJ requirements across the full lifecycle of their fire and life safety systems.
- Maintain and grow a full-service book of business, generating repeat inspection renewals, referrals, and add-on service sales.
- Coordinate with scheduling, operations, and technicians to ensure sold inspection and service work is completed accurately and on time.
- Maintain accurate records of leads, proposals, and closed business in the company CRM, and provide regular sales forecasts and pipeline reports.
- Attend industry trade shows, networking events, and association meetings to build market presence and generate leads.
- Stay current on NFPA codes, local fire codes, and industry trends affecting both inspection requirements and system repairs and upgrades.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Demonstrated track record of meeting or exceeding sales quotas across multiple product and service lines.
- Ability to read and interpret inspection reports, deficiency lists, and basic system drawings; familiarity with fire alarm, sprinkler, extinguisher, and suppression systems preferred (training provided).
- Valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM/estimating software.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong prospecting and new business development skills paired with consultative, technical sales ability.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
- Self-motivated, organized, and able to manage a diverse pipeline spanning new inspection agreements and deficiency-driven service opportunities.
- Ability to translate code compliance requirements and system deficiencies into clear, compelling solutions for customers.
- Comfortable managing the full sales cycle independently, from lead generation through close and hand-off to operations.
- Ability to collaborate cross-functionally with inspection, service, and operations teams.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Regularly required to travel throughout an assigned territory via personal or company vehicle.
- Frequent walking of job sites, including mechanical rooms, stairwells, rooftops, and outdoor areas in varying weather conditions.
- Occasional climbing of ladders or stairs to view system components and assess deficiencies.
- Ability to lift and carry sales and estimating materials up to 25 lbs.
- Primarily field-based role with some time spent in an office setting for proposal preparation and administrative tasks.
