Position Summary
The Manager of Product Management is a senior leader responsible for defining and executing the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for Neptune’s commercial software. This role leads a team of Product Managers and Product Owners organized around focused product areas, driving cross functional alignment across Commercial Software Development, Product Marketing, Sales, and Customer Experience. The Manager brings deep expertise in SaaS product management, a strong command of Agile delivery, and a track record of building high-performing product teams that consistently ship value to customers.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Roadmap
- Define and maintain a multi-horizon product roadmap aligned to Neptune’s Software objectives and roadmap deliverables.
- Partner with the Director of Software Product Management to set portfolio-level strategy and processes to accelerate the software roadmap.
- Translate market insights, customer feedback, and competitive intelligence into a clear, prioritized product vision that drives measurable business outcomes.
- Ensure software product strategy integrates cohesively with Neptune’s broader hardware and services portfolio.
Product Delivery & Execution
- Lead the team in defining well-scoped, outcome-oriented requirements in partnership with Commercial Software Development through all phases of the Agile product lifecycle.
- Drive prioritization decisions to balance customer value, technical feasibility, and business impact.
- Establish and maintain delivery cadence, sprint review participation, and product increment planning routines.
- Own product launch readiness, coordinating go-to-market activities with Product Marketing, Sales Enablement, and Customer Experience.
Team Leadership & Development
- Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and mentorship to a team of Product Managers and Product Owners across a defined product area.
- Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular 1:1s, and support career growth for each team member.
- Foster a culture of customer empathy, data-informed decision-making, and continuous improvement within the product team.
- Partner with Engineering leadership to maintain a healthy, well-groomed backlog and ensure requirements are executable and well-understood.
Stakeholder & Customer Engagement
- Serve as a key point of contact for internal stakeholders including Sales, Customer Experience, and executive leadership on software product topics.
- Engage directly with utility customers to gather Voice of the Customer input, validate product direction, and build long-term product relationships.
- Partner with Product Marketing on competitive analysis, positioning, and RFP responses for software products.
Skills & Competencies
- Deep expertise in SaaS product management methodologies and Agile/SAFe delivery frameworks.
- Strong strategic thinking with the ability to balance long-term vision with near-term execution priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to convey complex product concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Data-driven mindset with experience using product analytics, customer usage data, and market research to guide decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in water utility, energy, or infrastructure software markets.
- Pragmatic Institute (formerly Pragmatic Marketing) certification.
- Background in product-led growth, usage-based pricing, or SaaS packaging and tiering strategy.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Business, or a related field. MBA preferred.
Experience
- 7+ years of product management experience in a software or SaaS environment.
- 3+ years in a people management or team lead role overseeing product managers or product
owners.
