OrthoNC is seeking a PRN Certified Athletic Trainer to provide athletic training services and game coverage within our school and community outreach program. This role supports student-athletes through injury prevention, evaluation, immediate care, triage, referrals, and return-to-play guidance while serving as a trusted resource to athletes, coaches, parents, and healthcare providers.
What You’ll Do
Athletic Training & Game Coverage
- Provide game coverage, including management of on-field injuries, organization, administration, and record-keeping
- Recognize, evaluate, triage, and provide immediate care for on-site injuries and illnesses, including emergencies
- Appropriately triage injuries requiring an orthopedic office, urgent care, or other healthcare visit
- Administer appropriate athletic training techniques before games and practices to reduce the risk of injury
- Assist coaches in determining when an injured athlete can safely return to participation and competition
- Serve as a liaison between coaches, parents, athletic directors, physicians, and other healthcare providers involved in an athlete’s care
- Document and report all injuries and referrals to the Sports Program Coordinator
- Maintain accurate records related to injuries, treatment, referrals, and return-to-play decisions
Communication & Professional Responsibilities
- Communicate effectively with athletes, coaches, parents, athletic directors, physicians, and other healthcare providers
- Support a culture of athlete safety, injury prevention, and appropriate care
- Maintain compliance with continuing education requirements to keep certifications and licensure current
- Utilize email, internet-based systems, and mobile applications for communication, documentation, and daily responsibilities
What We’re Looking For
- A dependable, adaptable Athletic Trainer who is comfortable working independently in a school and athletic setting
- Someone who remains calm and confident when managing injuries and emergency situations
- Strong injury evaluation, triage, immediate care, communication, and documentation skills
- A team-oriented professional who builds strong relationships with athletes, coaches, families, and healthcare providers
- Someone passionate about supporting student-athletes and promoting safe participation
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Athletic Training from an accredited Athletic Training education program
- BOC Certification required
- NC Athletic Trainer Licensure (or eligible at time of hire)
- BLS certification required
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Comfortable using email, internet-based systems, and mobile applications
- Commitment to maintaining required certifications, licensure, and continuing education

- PRN position with variable hours based on school and athletic program needs
