The House Monitor (HM) works under the direction of the Life Coach and reports directly to the Program Coordinator. The HM is responsible for supporting the safety, security, and daily functioning of the facility during assigned shifts, while providing respectful and supportive engagement with residents.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

This role supports a 24/7 residential program environment and requires shiftbased coverage across all hours of operation.

Perform hourly rounds of the entire facility to ensure the building is safe and secure; report any problems to the next shift and emergencies to the Program Coordinator immediately.

Check in with each resident during the shift, build professional relationships, and assist residents with difficult or problematic situations in a sensitive and supportive manner.

Assist the Life Coach by engaging tenants in achieving their individual goals and supporting activities and group participation.

Apply traumainformed care principles in all interactions with tenants, volunteers, staff, and guests.

Monitor security cameras and document any unusual behavior or circumstances in the shift log.

Maintain accurate, professional, and informative shift log notes, detailing all relevant tenant interactions and observations throughout the shift.

Assist with apartment turnover between tenants, including cleaning, packing belongings, and other unit preparation tasks as needed.

Additional hours may be available based on program needs and assignment to maintenance, housekeeping, or facility support functions.

Communicate availability for scheduled, PRN, and oncall shifts to the Program Coordinator in a timely manner.

Attend and participate in staff meetings as requested.

Participate in at least one annual professional development opportunity to remain informed on best practices and continue professional growth.

Stays informed of current local and national events, trends, and issues (wherever possible) that impact Depaul USA’s work with the homeless.

Strives continuously to develop the role in collaboration with the supervisor to ensure that all tasks are undertaken effectively and appropriately, meeting the strategic goals and objectives of Depaul USA.

Participates in internal/external meetings as required and attends training events, conferences, and other functions as necessary. Participates in regular supervision and annual appraisal and helps in identifying your jobrelated development and training needs.

Ensures adherence to all Depaul USA policies and procedures, particularly those relating to Health and Safety, Safeguarding, Code of Practice, and Confidentiality.

Contributes to the effective implementation of Depaul USA’s Equal Opportunities Policy as it affects both the organization and its work with this client group.

Undertakes the role professionally, always maintaining a highquality work standard and always working in accordance with the Vision, Mission, and Values of Depaul USA.

Undertakes any other duties that may be required which are commensurate with the role.
The ideal House Monitor will have experience working in human services or direct care settings supporting individuals experiencing homelessness, housing instability, disability, or other complex needs. This role requires the ability to maintain a safe and supportive residential environment while engaging residents in a respectful, trauma-informed manner. Experience in residential programs, shelters, or other 24/7 service environments is highly preferred. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate strong situational awareness, communication skills, and the ability to respond appropriately in a dynamic environment, and possess the following:

High school diploma or GED required.

At least one year of experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, disability, or other vulnerable populations.

Experience in a residential, shelter, or direct service environment strongly preferred.

Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage residents in a professional and supportive manner.

Ability to remain calm, exercise sound judgment, and respond appropriately in highstress or emergent situations.
-
Basic computer proficiency, including ability to complete shift logs and documentation accurately and in a timely manner.

Ability to work independently while contributing to a teambased, collaborative environment.

First Aid/CPR certification required or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.

This is a 24/7 program with flexible MondaySunday scheduling, including weekends, overnight shifts, and PRN/asneeded coverage.

Additional hours may be available based on program needs and if assigned to support maintenance and housekeeping tasks.
