Position Overview
Iberia Express Inc. is seeking an experienced and motivated Lead / Senior Dispatcher to join our operations team. This position is ideal for an accomplished dispatcher who is ready to take on additional leadership responsibilities while continuing to actively dispatch freight.
The Lead Dispatcher will serve as a resource for the dispatch team by leading through example, assisting with training, helping resolve operational challenges, and supporting the Director of Operations in maintaining efficient day-to-day operations. This position offers a clear path for advancement into a Dispatch Supervisor role for the right individual.
Key Responsibilities
- Dispatch and manage your own fleet while maintaining high service and profitability standards.
- Serve as a lead resource for the dispatch team by providing guidance, support, and coaching.
- Assist in training and onboarding new dispatchers.
- Help maintain consistency in dispatch procedures and operational standards.
- Monitor freight markets, lane trends, and customer opportunities to maximize revenue.
- Coordinate drivers, brokers, customers, and internal departments to ensure efficient operations.
- Assist with load planning and fleet optimization.
- Review and recommend layover, detention, and accessorial pay in accordance with company policy.
- Help resolve driver concerns, service issues, and operational challenges in a timely and professional manner.
- Support the Director of Operations with daily workflow, dispatch coverage, and special projects.
- Coordinate dedicated freight opportunities and monitor their performance.
- Maintain a general understanding of cargo claims and assist in coordinating resolutions when needed.
- Lead by example by demonstrating professionalism, accountability, and strong decision-making.
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of dispatch experience in the trucking industry.
- Previous experience mentoring, training, or leading other dispatchers is preferred.
- Strong understanding of truckload operations, freight markets, and lane planning.
- Knowledge of layover, detention, and other driver compensation practices.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with dispatch software, TMS platforms, and Microsoft Office.
- Dependable, organized, and able to report to work by 7:00 AM each day.
