JOB SUMMARY
The Child Clinical Therapist (Clinician) primary clients will be between the ages of 3-19 years old. The Clinician is in charge of the client’s treatment during the course of their participation in the program. In conjunction with other disciplines, the Clinician assesses the client and family, develops the Mental Health Treatment Plan, and actively provides therapeutic interventions to the client and family. Assures that progress toward the client’s goals are maintained and revises the care plan as necessary. Coordinates the client’s discharge with a transition plan towards the use of the community for further care.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Master’s Degree in either Social Work or Marriage and Family Therapy.
Registration with California Board of Behavioral Sciences as either Associate Social Worker or Marriage and Family Therapist.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One (1) year of direct service experience treating emotionally disturbed children.
One (1) year of Play Therapy or other similar modalities of treatment, preferred
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
· Must possess a valid California Driver License, automobile, and automobile insurance.
· CAI/Fingerprint-Child Abuse Index Clearance.
· DOJ-Department of Justice Clearance.
· FBI Clearance.
· CPR/First Aid Certification.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· With help from other staff implements a thorough and detailed Mental Health Treatment Plan.
· Reviews Agency policies and procedures as part of the agency’s interdisciplinary team to assure compliance with federal and state regulations.
· Attends the Child and Family Team meetings on behalf of the client.
· Understands and meets all regulatory requirements for documentation, assuring timely entries in the youth’s charts to include, but not limited to: the youth’s assessment, a care plan to address strengths, needs, abilities, and preferences, substantiation of interventions, progress toward, and/or completion of goals, and transition summaries.
· Ensures the delivery of services to the youth while accounting for the employee’s safety as well as the well-being of the child.
· Meets with child, family, staff, school personnel, and others involved with the youth to evaluate needs and services for the child.
· Performs evaluations and periodic re-evaluations of a child describing the level of psychosocial impairment, physical health problems, self-care potential, support network availability, adequacy of living arrangements, financial status, employment status, and potential training or educational needs.
· Provides support and education to child and family members others to assist in their understanding of the child's mental health condition, referring them to appropriate agencies when the agency does not provide the needed services.
· Provides interventions for the child and family to improve youth’s behavioral outcomes as indicated on the Mental Health Treatment Plan.
· Monitors supports and assists the child in developing or maintaining skills needed to achieve the Mental Health Treatment Plan, including medical, educational, socialization, rehabilitation, and other social services.
· Provides individual, family, and group psychotherapy services for children.
· Works with family members to identify strengths and needs to ensure an appropriate transition plan is formulated.
· Responsible for communicating to the treatment team and Child and Family Team the estimated transition date.
· Makes referrals as needed for post-transition care to appropriate agencies and provides aftercare services as indicated.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS
· Ability to interact and communicate both verbally and in writing with seriously emotionally disturbed children, other staff, physicians, and the public.
· Demonstrated understanding of psychiatric illness and its treatment.
· Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of community services and county agencies.
· Demonstrated knowledge of therapy modalities that pertain to children.
