This is a combined full-time (1.0 FTE) position consisting of two separate assignments: a 0.7 FTE Charter School Assistant and a 0.3 FTE Special Education Secretary. Since these are two distinct positions, information for each assignment is provided separately below. Applicants selected for this combined position will perform the duties of both assignments.
Charter School Assistant (0.7 FTE)
Job Summary: The charter school assistant works in coordination with other charter school staff at the direction of the head teacher on a variety of tasks related to the safe and efficient operations in accordance with the mission, philosophy, and foundation of the charter school.
New Hire Hourly Rate: Grade 6: $21.60 - $24.14
Internal Hourly Rate: Determined by the ESSA Negotiated Agreement
Work Day: 5.25 hours
Work Year: 9 Months
Bargaining Unit: Education Support Staff Association (ESSA)
Job Qualifications/Requirements (please review job description for qualifications and duties of the position):

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

One (1) year of solid work experience demonstrating reliability, ability to follow directions, work independently and exercise good judgment.

First Aid, CPR, and AED Certification within 45 days of employment; preference given to applicants who already hold these certifications.

Ability and willingness to assist in a variety of essential school tasks.
-
Experience working with students at the appropriate grade level.
-
Knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and equipment.

Proven proficiency in oral and written communication skills in English.
-
Knowledge of de-escalation strategies.
-
Ability to relate and work successfully with students and adults.
-
Ability to work as a team in developing and delivering academic programs for students.

Demonstrated ability to assist students in one or more subject areas, i.e. reading or math.

Ability to deal courteously, firmly, and tactfully with students.
-
Ability to intervene in violent situations in an appropriate manner.

Ability to effectively handle stress, to defuse confrontations, and to proceed with authority and without supervision.

Depending on specific duties, a valid State of Alaska driver's license may be required.
Special Education Secretary (0.3 FTE)
Job Summary: Performs a variety of general office tasks associated with special education clerical functions within a school or the special education department, maintaining a high level of confidentiality with all student information.
New Hire Hourly Rate: Grade 5: $20.13 - $22.51
Internal Hourly Rate: Determined by the ESSA Negotiated Agreement
Work Day: 2.25 hours
Work Year: 10 Months

Strong oral and written English communication skills.

Must be competent in the use of computer word processing software and have experience using email calendar applications.

Strong knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, and equipment, as well as general knowledge of English, spelling, punctuation, grammar, and basic math.
Must have ability to interact with others in a courteous and tactful manner, to meet deadlines, to flexibly reprioritize work as needed, and to maintain confidentiality of records and oral information.
