Position Summary
The Victim Advocate provides compassionate, trauma-informed support to child and adult survivors of physical and sexual abuse and their non-offending family members. This position serves as a primary point of contact from the survivor's initial forensic interview through ongoing engagement with services, helping individuals navigate systems, access resources, and move toward healing and safety.
The ideal candidate is empathetic, organized, resourceful, collaborative, and committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of survivors.
Schedule
- Full-time (up to 37.5 hours per week)
- Salary based on experience, up to $54500
- Typical schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
- Flexibility required to meet client, training, fundraising, and community needs
Primary Responsibilities
Direct Client Support
- Meet with survivors and caregivers during initial forensic interview appointments.
- Follow up promptly after appointments and maintain regular contact thereafter.
- Provide emotional support, advocacy, crisis intervention, safety planning, and problem-solving assistance.
- Connect survivors with community resources and make referrals for medical, mental health, financial, legal, and other supportive services.
- Accompany survivors to appointments related to their abuse allegations when needed.
- Manage therapy and medical waitlists and help families navigate barriers to care.
Team Collaboration & Case Coordination
- Build strong relationships with multidisciplinary team partners and agency staff.
- Participate in case coordination and regularly obtain and document case updates.
- Track services, referrals, and outcomes in agency databases and Excel spreadsheets.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records.
Organizational Support
- Assist with fundraising events, outreach activities, and community engagement efforts.
- Help organize financial documents and administrative materials.
- Contribute to a welcoming, trauma-informed environment by restocking supplies, retrieving mail, maintaining shared spaces, and identifying improvements to the client experience and office environment.
Professional Development
- Participate in required training, mentorship opportunities, leadership development, and continuing education.
- Stay current on best practices in victim advocacy, trauma-informed care, and abuse response.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals experiencing trauma.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, and electronic databases.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and work both independently and collaboratively.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred.
