Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional to provide high-quality care and assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities, aging needs, or health challenges. The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for residents by delivering personalized support in a safe, respectful, and nurturing environment. Responsibilities
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using equipment such as Hoyer lifts when necessary.
- Monitor residents’ health status by taking vital signs, observing changes in behavior or condition, and reporting findings to healthcare professionals.
- Administer medications following prescribed care plans while adhering to HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality and privacy.
- Prepare nutritious meals and assist with meal planning in accordance with dietary restrictions and individual preferences.
- Maintain a clean and safe living environment by performing regular cleaning tasks and ensuring compliance with sanitation standards.
- Support residents in participating in community activities, social events, and recreational programs to promote engagement and independence.
- Follow established care plans meticulously, documenting progress and any incidents accurately for ongoing evaluation.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, healthcare providers, families, and social workers to deliver comprehensive care tailored to each resident’s needs.
- Utilize specialized equipment such as Hoyer lifts or resident’s <PERSON> (personal assistive devices) safely during transfers or mobility assistance.
- Participate in ongoing training related to first aid, CPR, dementia care—including Alzheimer’s and memory care—and other relevant certifications to ensure best practices are maintained.
Skills
- Proven experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home & community care environments.
- Knowledge of patient observation techniques and ability to monitor vital signs accurately.
- Familiarity with medication administration procedures and care plan implementation.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Competence in providing specialized dementia care, Alzheimer’s care, autism support, hospice care, and working with individuals with disabilities.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while assisting residents during transfers or mobility activities.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with residents, families, healthcare teams, and community partners.
- Experience in meal preparation, cleaning routines, and maintaining a safe environment aligned with health standards.
- Basic knowledge of nursing practices related to patient monitoring and long-term care procedures.
- Compassionate attitude combined with patience when working with seniors or individuals experiencing cognitive decline or developmental challenges. - $18.00/hour - $19.06/hour*
*depending on qualifications and experience
