Responsibilities
- Safely operate commercial trucks with manual transmissions, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Drive route-specific vehicles such as tractor-trailers, flatbeds, refrigerated trailers, tankers, dump trucks, and roll-off trucks to deliver freight efficiently and on schedule.
- Load and unload cargo using manual handling techniques or equipment like forklifts when necessary, ensuring proper securing of hazardous materials and dangerous goods.
- Navigate routes using GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery times and maintain accurate delivery schedules.
- Handle logistics cargo including freight that may involve hazardous materials or dangerous goods in accordance with hazardous materials regulations.
- Perform routine vehicle inspections before and after trips; report any maintenance issues promptly to ensure vehicle safety and compliance.
- Maintain detailed logs of driving hours, deliveries, and cargo handling activities in accordance with FMCSA regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and customers to coordinate deliveries and resolve any route or cargo issues promptly.
Qualifications
- Valid CDL A license with a clean driving record; experience operating manual transmission trucks is preferred.
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving, including route driving with various types of trucks such as flatbeds, refrigerated trailers, tankers, dump trucks, or roll-off trucks.
- Knowledge of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration), DOT (Department of Transportation), and hazardous materials regulations.
- Ability to handle freight manually or with equipment like forklifts; experience in logistics cargo handling is a plus.
- Strong understanding of GPS navigation systems for efficient route planning.
- Excellent driving skills with a focus on safety, load & unload procedures, and compliance with all safety standards.
- Physical ability to perform manual handling tasks required for loading/unloading freight; must be able to lift heavy items when necessary.
- Good communication skills for coordinating with dispatchers and customers; attention to detail for maintaining logs and safety records.
