O*: Lead Die SetterJob Summary*
We are seeking an experienced and technically proficient Lead Die Setter to oversee our press operations and mold/die changeovers. This role requires an individual with advanced knowledge of press mechanics, heavy rigging, and stamping processes. As a Lead, you will be responsible for ensuring that all die sets are completed safely, efficiently, and to exact production standards, while providing technical guidance to the production team.
Key Responsibilities
- Die Changeovers: Lead the rapid and accurate changeover of dies, molds, and tooling on high-tonnage presses. Ensure all components are securely fastened, aligned, and calibrated.
- Technical Leadership: Provide hands-on training and troubleshooting guidance to junior die setters and machine operators. Serve as the primary point of contact for complex mechanical issues during production.
- Tooling Maintenance: Conduct routine inspections of dies and bolsters. Identify wear or damage and coordinate with the tool room for necessary repairs or preventative maintenance.
- Safety Oversight: Enforce strict adherence to lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, press guard safety, and ergonomic lifting standards. Conduct safety audits of all setup areas.
- Process Optimization: Monitor press performance during production runs. Adjust parameters as needed to ensure optimal part quality, consistent cycle times, and minimal downtime.
- Workflow Coordination: Collaborate with Production Supervisors to prioritize setup schedules and ensure all necessary tooling and materials are staged prior to changeovers.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years of direct experience in a stamping or manufacturing environment as a Die Setter or Press Technician, with at least 1–2 years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
- Technical Proficiency: Expert-level knowledge of die clamping systems, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and heavy rigging practices.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical manuals.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to coach team members, resolve conflicts, and maintain high standards of quality and efficiency.
- Safety Certification: Strong working knowledge of OSHA press safety requirements; current certification or extensive training in LOTO and overhead crane operation is highly preferred.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in a demanding manufacturing environment, including frequent standing, reaching, and occasional heavy lifting of tooling components.
