Medical Assistant
Advanced Practice Mental Health & Wellness of South Carolina is seeking a dependable, organized, and professional Medical Assistant to support our prescribing clinicians and help ensure the efficient operation of our mental health medication-management services.
This is a full-time, in-person position requiring excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with patients, clinical providers, office staff, pharmacies, laboratories, and outside healthcare offices.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Primary Responsibilities
- Obtain and accurately document patient vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, and weight.
- Prepare patients for appointments with mental health nurse practitioners and other prescribing clinicians.
- Provide daily clinical and administrative support to prescribing providers.
- Schedule patient follow-up appointments as directed by the treating clinician.
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with patients regarding appointments, provider instructions, laboratory requests, referrals, and other clinical needs.
- Maintain clear and timely communication with providers, clinical staff, administrative staff, pharmacies, laboratories, and outside healthcare offices.
- Submit, track, and follow up on medication prior authorization requests.
- Assist with laboratory orders, laboratory result requests, referrals, and coordination with outside providers as needed.
- Receive, organize, document, and maintain medication samples in accordance with office policies and applicable requirements.
- Coordinate appropriately with pharmaceutical representatives and manage medication sample deliveries and related documentation.
- Accurately document patient communications and clinical information in the electronic health record.
- Assist providers with prescription-related communications and pharmacy requests within the scope of the position.
- Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, office policies, and all applicable healthcare regulations.
- Maintain a professional, organized, and patient-centered clinical environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the prescribing clinicians and the overall needs of the practice.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Medical Assistant or in a healthcare setting is preferred.
- Medical Assistant certification is preferred but may not be required based on experience.
- Experience in behavioral health, psychiatry, or medication-management services is a plus.
- Ability to accurately obtain and document patient vital signs.
- Familiarity with electronic health record systems and basic medical terminology.
- Experience with medication prior authorizations, laboratory requests, referrals, or pharmacy communications is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, providers, coworkers, pharmacies, laboratories, and outside agencies.
- Ability to remain calm, respectful, and professional when assisting patients experiencing emotional or mental health concerns.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.
- Dependable attendance and the ability to work Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in person.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive patient and clinical information.

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
