Love Cooking, But Tired of the Restaurant Grind?
You can love working in a kitchen without loving everything that comes with restaurant life.
The late-night closes.
Getting home at midnight.
The unpredictable rushes.
Working nearly every Friday and Saturday night.
At Elmore Assisted Living, you can put your kitchen experience to work in an environment with consistent daytime hours, a predictable schedule, and people who genuinely appreciate the meals you prepare.
Our typical cook shift is 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
You can cook dinner and still be home for yours.
Why Restaurant Cooks Make the Move to Senior Living
- $16.00-$21.00/hour based on experience.

- Every other weekend instead of every weekend.
- Every other holiday rotation.
- Predictable meal periods and production.
- Work with a consistent culinary team.
- Get to know the people enjoying the food you prepare.
- Opportunity to build experience within senior living and healthcare dining.
- Join a family-owned Minnesota organization.
Trade Tickets for People
In a restaurant, you might prepare hundreds of meals for people you'll never meet.
Here, you'll know exactly who you're cooking for.
You'll learn which residents love your meatloaf.
Who looks forward to soup day.
Who always asks what's for dessert.
And who tells you that something you made reminds them of a meal they used to cook at home.
You're still a cook. The difference is that you get to see what your food means to the people eating it.
What You'll Be Cooking
We're focused on meals residents recognize, enjoy, and look forward to.
You'll:
- Prepare home-style meals according to established recipes and menus.
- Cook and prepare meats, vegetables, soups, sides, and other menu items.
- Chop, portion, prepare, and organize ingredients.
- Ensure meals meet resident dietary requirements.
- Plate food with attention to quality, consistency, and presentation.
- Maintain proper food temperatures and storage.
- Follow sanitation and food-safety requirements.
- Keep preparation areas, equipment, and the kitchen clean and organized.
- Work with the culinary team to keep meal service running smoothly.
Your Kitchen Experience Transfers Here
We'd especially like to meet candidates with experience as:
- Line Cooks.
- Prep Cooks.
- Restaurant Cooks.
- Breakfast Cooks.
- Banquet Cooks.
- School or Cafeteria Cooks.
- Healthcare Cooks.
- Senior Living Cooks.
- Dietary Cooks.
- Kitchen Team Members.
Previous professional cooking or food-preparation experience is required.
You don't necessarily need senior living experience.
If you can cook, understand kitchen operations, take food safety seriously, and enjoy serving others, we can help you learn our environment.
A Different Kind of Kitchen Rush
We still get busy.
Residents still expect their meals on time.
Quality and consistency still matter.
But instead of wondering how late the dinner rush will last, you know when dinner is being served and when your shift is scheduled to end.
For someone who enjoys cooking but wants a little more predictability in life, that can make a big difference.
Cook Somewhere Your Food Gets Remembered
At Elmore Assisted Living, meals are more than something residents need three times a day.
They're part of the routine.
They're social.
They're comforting.
And sometimes a familiar meal can make a place feel a little more like home.
Sunflower Communities is a family-owned Minnesota senior living organization focused on creating communities where older adults feel known, respected, and cared for.
