A Major Music School is hiring teachers who play any of the following: Piano, violin, or singers (musicians must be at an advanced skill level, but don't need prior teaching experience).

We're hiring because most of our teachers are full right now and can't take any new students.
ABOUT US
Our music school hires and trains musicians (who already play music well) to teach music lessons. You can teach part-time or work your way up to full-time. Lessons can be taught in-home (where your drive to the students house for an extra fee) or at our 6 room music school behind mugs up in north east Columbia.
PIANO/VOCALS
For piano and vocals, we have a beginner course if you've never taught before and many tactics for teaching beginning and advanced techniques, as well as how to learn songs for your students and training on music theory. No prior teaching experience is required for piano/vocals, but you need to know the instrument you're teaching very well. It's possible we could hire and train a good player who's not an expert, and only have them teach younger beginner students.
GUITAR
The Guitar training program is very extensive. You learn our proven method of teaching as well as proper technique, but there's still plenty of room for you to add your own creativity to the lessons! There is also advanced training available from everything from theory to other instruments.
Violin / Training
For violin, no prior teaching experience is required but you must already be a very good violinist. Our training program will teach you how to teach, and tactics for teaching beginning and advanced techniques, as well as how to learn songs for your students, training on music theory, how to keep your lessons organized, and how to answer and handle every situation that may arise as a music teacher.
LESSONS
Lessons are usually one 30-minute lesson per week per student (with exceptions). You can choose to do in-home lessons (where you will drive to the students' house each week for the lesson) as well as at our music school in Columbia, MO. We typically start new teachers out with 1-2 students/week and then add an additional 1-2/students per week.
Most of our teachers are W2 employees but some can be private contractors if requested.
SALARY
Starting salary is about $34/hour right now. $25/hour base pay, plus drive fees, plus we have a profit share program where the extra money the school makes goes back to the teachers and it's at about $9/hour right now.
An average teacher may teach 5 hours a week and make about $250 a week ($230 after taxes), but some teachers have built up to around 4 times that and teach nearly full time.
Duties:
- Follow our instructions and guidelines (or create your own) to keep your students interested, progressing, and enjoying their lessons.
- Be punctual, keep your schedule organized, and enter every lesson you teach into our system (which is fast and easy and will show you how much your next check will be after tax as you enter lessons).
- Respond to messages from students and management in a timely fashion.
- Have fun playing music with your students and enjoy the best job in the world!
MUST HAVE
Consistency is one of the most important things! You need to be on time and at your regularly scheduled weekly lessons. No more than one cancelation every two months. If you can do that and if you enjoy teaching music, then you will succeed with our help and become a great music teacher!
