About Beazer’s Garden Workshops (BGW)
Beazer’s Garden Workshops is a nonprofit eco-education program cultivating environmental stewardship through hands-on gardening, composting, and sustainability workshops in NYC schools. We empower students, educators, and families to grow food, nurture soil, and care for the planet. Our gardens are living classrooms, blending ecology, nutrition, sustainability, green infrastructure, and social-emotional learning while providing calm, restorative spaces for students.
Position Overview
BGW is seeking an experienced Child Behavioral Specialist and Garden Education Site Manager to represent our program leadership and support our garden educators and school partners. This role is ideal for a seasoned educator (7+ years of experience) or retired teacher with supervisory or team-lead experience. You will collaborate directly with educators in person and virtually to ensure safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environments for students.
Key Responsibilities
Behavioral and Classroom Support
- Provide expert guidance on student behavior strategies, including proactive management, conflict resolution, and de-escalation techniques.
- Lead small and large group management, supporting student engagement and ensuring safe, inclusive learning environments.
- Observe student interactions and provide actionable feedback for our educators on behavioral trends and accommodations.
Collaboration and Mentorship
Collaborate closely with educators in-person and virtually, offering coaching, resources, and professional guidance.
- Supervise, mentor, and guide our educators and interns during afterschool program.
- Partner with our partner school staff, site coordinators, and families to align on student goals, behavior plans, and learning outcomes.
Program and Documentation Support
- Assist with creating, reviewing, and implementing behavior intervention plans, IEP accommodations, or safety protocols.
- Maintain accurate documentation of student attendance, behavior, program observations, and educator support efforts.
- Ensure compliance with DOE or school-specific policies, safety protocols, and BGW program standards.
Client and Relationship Management
- Serve as a primary point of contact for school partners regarding behavioral support and program delivery.
- Build strong, professional relationships with educators, school staff, families, and community stakeholders.
- Troubleshoot challenges proactively and communicate solutions to maintain smooth program operations.
- Assist with parent communication and student enrollment.
Program Enhancement and Leadership
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of lessons by sharing insights on student engagement, inclusivity, and classroom management.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen educator capacity, student participation, and overall program effectiveness.
- Model best practices in classroom management, inclusion, and student-centered learning.
Qualifications
Required:
- Experienced educator (7+ years) or retired teacher.
- Supervisory, team lead, or group management experience.
- Background in child behavior, psychology, special education, or related field.
- Experience with behavior intervention plans, IEPs, or safety plans.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work in-person 5 days per week, primarily at key site
- Comfort collaborating both in-person and virtually with educators and staff.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with gardening and environmental science or experiential education.
- Multi-Lingual, French and/or Spanish speaking

Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
