Seeking a dependable and compassionate Direct Support Professional (DSP) to work one-on-one with an individual who needs support developing daily living and basic educational skills.
We are looking for someone who has experience working with individuals with disabilities and, preferably, experience developing and implementing direct support programs or skill-building activities.
Responsibilities include:
- Teaching daily living skills such as cooking, meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, and household organization
- Helping the individual develop routines and become more independent with everyday responsibilities
- Providing basic educational support, including counting, addition, subtraction, money skills, and other practical math skills
- Developing and implementing activities to help the individual learn and practice new skills
- Breaking down tasks into simple steps based on the individual's learning needs
- Providing hands-on instruction, prompting, repetition, and encouragement as needed
- Monitoring progress and identifying areas where additional support or practice may be needed
- Supporting the individual with community activities and opportunities to practice skills in everyday settings
- Communicating with family members and others involved in the individual's care and support
- Providing companionship and positive encouragement
Qualifications:
- 1+ year of experience working with individuals with disabilities or special needs
- Experience developing and implementing direct support programs or individualized skill-building activities preferred
- Experience teaching daily living, educational, or independent living skills
- Patient, dependable, and comfortable providing one-on-one instruction
- Able to adjust teaching methods based on the individual's needs and learning pace
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of APD Required Training: Zero Tolerance, Direct Care Core Competencies, and Requirements for All Waiver Providers (willing to obtain training prior to hire)
