JOB SUMMARY
The Animal Care Technician is responsible for the general care and maintenance of all animals at Dorchester Paws facility. Duties include maintaining and cleaning animal kennels and cages, feeding and watering of all animals, monitoring food and water consumption, documenting and reporting animal temperament, behavior, abnormalities and food/water intake, walking animals to maintain their physical and mental health. The Kennel Technician is an important part of the team as they are the first to report if there is a problem with an animal.
Essential Functions and Duties
Support Dorchester Paws in daily functions including the general care and maintenance of the facility and all animals
Rinses, scrubs and disinfects animal cages and outdoor runs, hallways, floors, walls and isolation/quarantine areas, transport carriers, etc.
Walk and exercise animals to maintain their physical and mental health
Feed and water animals according to schedules and feeding instructions
Perform general cleaning duties such as laundry and washing animal bowls
Walks through the kennel areas checking each animal individually for any abnormal activity such as vomiting, diarrhea, or blood in the cage
Monitor and Record food and water consumptions
Bring animals to and from the kennel during cleaning procedures
Clean up after animals both inside the facility and outside, and clean animal runs and cages as needed
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other organizations, and general public
Maintain the shelter by performing tasks including, but not limited to, sweeping/mopping floors, wiping counters, taking out trash, cleaning bathrooms, and checking equipment and supplies
Perform other duties as assigned
Work Environment
Duties will take place at Dorchester Paws that require consistent walking and outdoor related work task both indoors and outdoors of the shelter. This role routinely uses cleaning supplies and equipment.
This role requires regular and extended standing and walking. This role requires flexibility and the ability to stand, lift, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend or stand as necessary. This position also requires frequent lifting or moving of objects or materials up to 50lbs.
