Job Title: Maintenance Supervisor
Location: Kansas City, KS
Duration: 12 Months Contract
2nd shift: 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM (Training will be provided in 1st shift)
Job description:
- The Maintenance Supervisor leads maintenance personnel to ensure manufacturing equipment, machinery, and facilities operate safely, reliably, and efficiently with minimal unplanned downtime.
- This role combines hands-on technical oversight, workforce leadership, preventive and predictive maintenance execution, and strong compliance discipline within a fast-paced, 24/7 production environment.
- The supervisor is accountable for daily maintenance execution, workforce development, equipment reliability, and continuous improvement aligned with site KPIs and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Team Leadership & Development
- Train, coach, supervise, motivate, and evaluate maintenance technicians across multiple shifts.
- Assign daily and weekly work, manage schedules and overtime, track performance, and support ongoing skill and professional development.
2. Maintenance Execution & Accountability
- Optimize work order assignment and execution through effective communication, clear priorities, and strong follow-up.
- Drive individual and team accountability to ensure work is completed safely, on time, and to quality workmanship standards.
3. Preventive & Planned Maintenance
- Develop, execute, and continuously improve preventive maintenance (PM) plans for production and facility assets.
- Coordinate routine, planned, emergency, and seasonal maintenance activities while minimizing impact to production.
4. Technical Oversight & Troubleshooting
- Direct and oversee repairs involving mechanical, electrical, controls, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation systems.
- Provide technical guidance and hands-on support for complex troubleshooting on the production floor as needed.
5. Continuous Improvement & Reliability
- Lead root cause problem solving using structured methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, A3, breakdown elimination).
- Ensure permanent corrective actions are implemented to prevent repeat failures.
6. Documentation & SAP Discipline
- Ensure accurate, timely completion of all maintenance documentation including work orders, repairs, inspections, compliance records, audits, labor reporting, and daily shift entries within SAP.
7. Safety, GMP, & Regulatory Compliance
- Enforce all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, GMPs). Conduct inspections, lead safety training, and drive adherence to procedures.
- Ensure consistent use of required PPE and strict adherence to all safety policies, procedures, and GMP standards.
- Execute Safety 7s and Golden 6s in line with departmental goals.
8. Cost & Vendor Management
- Support maintenance spending within budget objectives.
- Assist with cost control initiatives, spare parts usage, and coordination of contractors and vendors to ensure safe, effective, and compliant work execution.
9. Inspections & Audits
- Perform routine equipment, facility, and process audits to identify potential risks, reliability gaps, and improvement opportunities early.
10. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Production, Operations, Safety, Quality, Engineering, Sanitation and site leadership to align maintenance activities with production goals.
- Focus on improving equipment reliability, uptime, associate labor utilization, and key performance indicators through lean and continuous improvement efforts.
Required Qualifications, Skills & Competencies
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate or bachelor’s degree in maintenance technology, Industrial Engineering, or a related field strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in maintenance execution, planning, or scheduling within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading or supervising skilled trades or maintenance technicians in a multi-shift operation.
- Working knowledge of CMMS platforms (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Fiix, Maximo, UpKeep) and maintenance performance analytics.
- Strong understanding of Bills of Material (BOMs), task list development, job plans, and work auditing.
- Experience administering Time and Attendance (T&A) systems using Kronos, ADP, Software, Mobile apps and various other means to track and reconcile employee work hours, absences, and breaks.
- Experience with failure analysis, breakdown elimination, A3, 5 Whys, and other lean problem-solving methodologies preferred.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills; able to manage multiple priorities in a 24/7 environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (especially Excel); comfortable with data visualization and reporting tools.
- Experience with predictive maintenance technologies and Reliability Maintenance (RM) principles preferred.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, TPM, or Six Sigma methodologies is a plus.
