We are seeking an experienced Auto Body Paint Prepper to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting the body painter by prepping the vehicles for paint jobs. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in an auto body shop, possess strong attention to detail, and be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Candidates should have a solid understanding of proper paint preparation techniques, shop safety procedures, and the ability to consistently produce quality work while meeting production deadlines.
Candidate Requirements:
- Must have attended a collision repair and refinishing schooling/course
- A strong willingness to learn and be developed by our team.
Duties: Responsibilities include sanding, masking, priming, cleaning surfaces, feather edging, and assisting the body painter throughout the refinishing process. Preparing metal and other surfaces on automotive equipment for painting and in applying lacquers, primers, synthetic enamels, polyurethane, and epoxy with spray guns and other auto painting equipment to automotive and construction equipment; and does related work.
Essential Duties include the following; however, other duties and responsibilities may be assigned:
- Knowledge of (or willingness to learn) the processes, techniques and materials used in painting automotive and construction equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance on paint equipment
- Identify and spot repair paint defects in accordance with appearance specification
- Verify cleaning chemical concentrations
- Pre-treat and prep cabs and parts for paint
- Remove upholstery and trim prior to repair work; remove damaged fenders, panels, and grills using wrenches.
- Apply primer to surface on which vehicle will be painted. Sand blocking primed surface. Clean and mask the vehicle in preparation for paint within the pre-established time.
- Clean, buff, and polish repaired vehicles inside and out. Use specialized equipment, material, and chemicals to remove dirt and dust, eliminate all evidence of repairs, and return vehicle to like-new appearance.
- Inspect all repaired and primed panels for proper and complete body repairs and primer application. Review any incomplete, missed damage, or improper repairs with management before proceeding.
- Mask/protect any adjacent panels (non refinish) from scratches or damage before final sanding.
- Prepare properly repaired and primed panels (including “blend” panels) for final finish application using abrasives, power tools, and hand tools.
- Avoid over-sanding (cutting through finish) or under-sanding (leaving sand scratches that will be visible in final finish) refinish panels.
- Clean and remove all dust and other particles from repair/refinish panels completely prior to moving completed vehicles to next step.
- Follow all safety and health procedures. Actively participates in support of all safety activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager or supervisor, i.e., perform housekeeping duties, etc.
