PHARMACY TECHNICIAN
JOB PURPOSE AND SUMMARY
Pharmacy Technicians are responsible for preparing medications for patient consumption under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, or medical oncologist. Duties are performed in accordance with standard departmental procedures, pharmacy law, and accepted standards of pharmacy practice.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES
· Performs medication preparation duties assigned by and under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist or medical oncologist.
· Prepares IV mixtures and verifies dosing/quantities with the infusion RN before compounding.
· Correctly labels medications for dispensing and administration.
· Utilizes computer programs and automated packaging systems to prepackage medications, maintaining accurate recall records.
· Provides support and assistance to infusion room personnel as directed.
· Monitors and manages inventory, removes expired or discontinued medications/solutions/supplies, and documents all removals.
· Processes items for vendor return, credit, or disposal as directed by management.
· Conducts nursing unit inspections to ensure proper IV stock levels and accurate charges; communicates findings with nurse managers.
· Checks and removes outdated medications on a routine basis and maintains required records.
· Assists with ordering, managing, and reconciling supplies and medications for practice.
· Assists with checking in orders, putting orders away, filing, and documentation.
· Collaborates with management and staff to coordinate inventory processes using lean and just-in-time principles.
· Documents all preparation and dispensing activities in accordance with pharmacy standards and departmental procedures.
· Assists with billing by using appropriate computer functions, reason codes, and dates for charging or crediting.
· Adheres to HIPAA, confidentiality standards, and company policies and procedures.
· Participates in the performance improvement process and related projects.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an accredited pharmacy technician training program.
- Minimum two years' experience in compounding IV admixtures, preferably including IV chemotherapy.
- Retail pharmacy experience a plus
- National Pharmacy Technician Certification is strongly preferred.
This job operates in a healthcare setting with frequent interaction with patients, staff, vendors, and/or external partners and may involve exposure to healthcare-associated conditions. The employee must follow applicable HIPAA, OSHA, infection control, safety, confidentiality, and organizational policies at all times.
The role is based in a pharmacy and oncology infusion support environment and may involve exposure to medications, chemotherapy or hazardous drug handling areas, IV preparation workflows, biohazardous materials, storage areas, inventory shelves, and medication safety requirements. The employee must follow pharmacy law, scope-of-practice restrictions, PPE requirements, hazardous drug precautions, infection control procedures, and applicable safety protocols.
The employee must be able to read information on paper and computer screens; type, write, operate office or clinical equipment used in the role; handle supplies; and communicate clearly in person, by phone, and through electronic systems.
This position requires standing and walking for extended periods, movement to storage shelves and filling counters, visual acuity to distinguish labels, quantities, colors, expiration dates, and medication information, and fine motor skills for medication preparation, labeling, inventory handling, documentation, and equipment use.
The employee may occasionally bend, reach, push, pull, lift, or move pharmacy supplies, inventory, files, or equipment, generally up to 25 pounds.
Pay: $29.00 - $38.00 per hour
