Boiler Service Technician
Position Overview
The Boiler Service Technician is a senior-level field service professional responsible for the maintenance, repair, startup, commissioning, tuning, and upgrade of commercial and industrial boiler systems. This role requires advanced expertise in combustion systems, burner management, controls, and boiler room operations. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled troubleshooter with hands-on experience supporting steam and hot water systems, combustion controls, feedwater systems, and complex burner applications.
Key Responsibilities

Perform advanced troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, startup, and commissioning of commercial and industrial boiler systems.

Diagnose and resolve complex combustion, burner, controls, electrical, and mechanical issues.

Service and optimize dual-fuel burner systems, including natural gas and fuel oil applications.

Perform combustion analysis and burner tuning to maximize efficiency, reliability, and emissions performance.

Troubleshoot and maintain burner management systems, flame safeguard controls, and associated safety devices.

Service and calibrate pressure controls, temperature controls, transmitters, actuators, valves, and related instrumentation.

Work with 3-element feedwater control systems, parallel positioning controls, and advanced combustion management systems.

Troubleshoot analog circuits, control loops, transmitters, and process instrumentation.

Install, configure, and support O2 trim systems and 3-parameter combustion trim systems.

Execute control system upgrades, burner retrofits, and boiler modernization projects.

Perform preventative maintenance, equipment inspections, site surveys, and system modifications.

Assist with installation, startup, and commissioning of new boiler and burner equipment.

Prepare for field assignments by reviewing system requirements, identifying materials, coordinating work activities, and anticipating potential challenges.

Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior technicians and support personnel.

Maintain accurate service reports, maintenance records, and project documentation.

Manage service vehicle inventory, tools, equipment, and replacement parts.

Serve as the primary customer contact during service calls and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction.

Identify opportunities for equipment upgrades, energy savings, and additional service offerings.

Participate in ongoing technical training to remain current on emerging equipment, controls, and combustion technologies.

Support after-hours, overtime, and weekend service requirements as necessary.
Qualifications

Associate degree or technical training in HVAC, Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Systems, Electrical Systems, or a related field preferred.

Extensive experience servicing commercial and industrial boiler and burner systems.

Extensive experience with steam boilers, hot water boilers, burner management systems, and combustion controls.

Strong understanding of boiler room operations, steam systems, condensate systems, feedwater systems, and associated auxiliary equipment.

Advanced knowledge of dual-fuel combustion systems and burner tuning.

Experience with flame safeguard controls, combustion analyzers, and combustion efficiency testing.

Working knowledge of parallel positioning controls, O2 trim systems, and 3-element feedwater control systems.

Ability to troubleshoot electrical controls, relays, VFDs, motors, actuators, transmitters, and analog control circuits.

Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics, ladder diagrams, control drawings, and piping diagrams.

Strong understanding of industrial combustion safety standards and boiler operating principles.

Excellent troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word.

Universal EPA Certification preferred.

Valid driver's license required.

Strong communication and customer service skills.

Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision.
