At UConn Health, this position is responsible for managing the daily administrative and clinical in collaboration with physicians and multidisciplinary professional staff, and for the administrative oversite of staff providing support for patients and families consistent with the UConn Health's mission. This position will oversee the UConn Medical Groups Orthopedic Office
SCHEDULE: This is a full-time 40 hour per week salaried position, Monday-Friday, primarily 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 60 minute unpaid meal
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reporting to the University Director.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Manages Assigned Staff.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Manages the operational activities of the assigned nursing unit) or department; ensures staff adheres to patient and staff policies related to safety, safe patient handling and stay for safety;
Uses outcome data to assess, evaluate and implement changes to meet clinical regulatory compliance and measurable evidence based improvements in outcomes of care provided to patients within area of responsibility;
Administers personnel actions: recruits skilled staff to ensure adequate levels of resources to meet business needs and financial parameters; coaches, counsels and disciplines employees; conducts timely performance evaluations; develops staff by providing information, educational and growth opportunities;
Interprets UConn Health's philosophies and standards of care; adheres to the mission, vision and values of UConn Health and the Department of Nursing; aligns unit goals to meet goals of UMG;
Establishes and maintains communication between ancillary departments, physicians, nursing staff, other healthcare professionals and patients;
Ensures the implementation of policies and procedures; updates unit based policies and procedures as needed;
Prepares and participates in budgetary recommendations; monitors costs and expenditures of unit activities; authorizes expenditures as appropriate; manages unit costs in a fiscal responsible manner; assists in the selection, provision and control of material resources required for the performance of the unit such as, equipment, supplies, space and facilities; establishes standards to ensure cost containment and to optimize working environment;
Implements and evaluates performance improvement activities in response to opportunities in patient care, and assures patient safety outcomes;
Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological and spiritual support to patients and families;
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies;
Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:
Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of nursing and healthcare administration;
Knowledge of and ability to apply management principles and techniques;
Considerable knowledge of requirements by federal, state or regulatory bodies; knowledge of all relevant policies and procedures;
Considerable knowledge of effective workforce utilization;
Knowledge of financial management;
Excellent interpersonal skills; effective oral and written communication skills;
Supervisory skills;
Ability to develop and implement performance improvement initiatives and to interpret outcome data; solid understanding of patient satisfaction indicators (eg. HCAPS).
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
General Experience:
Graduate of an accredited nursing program and eight (8) years nursing experience;
Two (2) to three (3) years of the experience must have been as a Nurse Manager or as an Assistant Nurse Manager in an inpatient hospital or outpatient clinic setting.
