Urban Ministries of Durham (UMD) is seeking a Kitchen Assistant/ Prep Cook to assist with food production, working closely with volunteers, maintaining cleanliness and serving meals to Urban Ministries residents and community members in need of a meal. Shifts available:
Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 7a-11a Saturday-Sunday 8:30a-11:30a
Key responsibilities include:
- Following UMD policies and procedures
- Assistance with food preparation and food service
- Assisting with maintaining the quality and nutritional value of meals prepared and served at UMD
- Having a good understanding of established guidelines for proper food handling
- Working with community partners by unloading donations from deliveries and making donation pick-ups weekly
- Receiving and maintaining ServeSafe certification
- Assuring that all volunteers in the cafe are properly trained and treated in a friendly, respectful manner
- Maintaining cleanliness of kitchen
- Performing kitchen related duties to such as loading or unloading deliveries and washing dishes.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a commercial kitchen with volunteers while serving an underserved population often challenged with poverty and homelessness
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/ GED required
- Basic computer knowledge (Required)
- Must be able to work weekends, holidays and evenings
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Comfortable working in a fast paced environment
