One of New York City's premier aquarium design & maintenance companies is seeking an experienced Aquarist to join our growing staff. As an Aquarist, you would be responsible for maintaining and cleaning aquariums throughout the five boroughs and beyond.
Ideally, you are one of the following: a knowledgeable hobbyist or a student of Marine Science. This is an intermediate level position, and you will receive a minimum of two weeks of training.
FULL or PART-TIME welcome. We will consider applicants seeking full employment as well as those only interested in working a few weekdays per week. Weekend work is NOT possible.
The job pays hourly, $22 to $27 per hour, the wage being dependent on experience. Other benefits include paid time off and a 401k retirement plan with matching employer contribution after one year of employment.
Aquarist Requirements:
- Driver's license
- Weekday availability (M-F)
- Enthusiasm for aquariums and marine life
- Experience caring for aquariums, whether professionally or as a hobbyist
- Polite, professional appearance
- Hardworking, can-do attitude
Aquarist Responsibilities:
- Cleaning and changing water on clients' aquariums
- Testing water (chem panels)
- Sending daily reports, indicating clients' needs
- Recommending aquarium livestock and equipment for clients
- Troubleshooting issues, such as disease, faulty equipment, etc.
- Caring for our quarantine and reef systems
- Remaining on-call one weekend per month
