Appraisal Services Group (ASG) is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and motivated Full-Time (FT) Appraisal Assistant to support our growing appraisal practice based out of our Fairfield, CT headquarters. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of personal property appraisal while working alongside experienced appraisers.

ASG, a division of Black Rock Galleries (BRG) based in Fairfield, CT, is a leading provider of personal property appraisal services, specializing in fine art, antiques, jewelry, decorative arts, collectibles, residential contents, and specialty assets. Our team delivers professional appraisal reports for taxable estates insurance, estate planning, charitable donation, equitable distribution, and other valuation needs. POSITION & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Appraisal Assistant position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of personal property appraisal while working alongside experienced appraisers.
The ideal candidate possesses exceptional writing and research skills, strong organizational abilities, and a genuine interest in art, antiques, collectibles, and valuation services. ASG will provide and pay for required USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice) coursework and professional development. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Fieldwork & Inspections
- Assist appraisers during onsite inspections of residential properties.
- Take detailed notes regarding assets, provenance, and identifying characteristics.
- Take and record measurements and complete condition reports.
- Photograph personal property items.
- Travel regionally for inspections and client meetings.
Research & Analysis
- Conduct market research and comparable sales analysis.
- Support appraisal methodology development and documentation.
- Analyze market trends and relevant data sources.
Report Preparation
- Assemble Appraisal Reports and supporting documentation.
- Review and proof reports for accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
- Maintain organized digital and physical files.
- Ensure compliance with USPAP standards and internal quality requirements.
Administrative & Client Support
- Coordinate appraisal projects and schedules.
- Communicate professionally with clients regarding appointments, documentation, and project status.
- Assist with invoicing, billing, and project tracking.
- Manage storage and organization of appraisal records and supporting materials
- Offer extraordinary and professional customer service with prompt response time to leads, requests, and queries
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Appraisal Manager or other supervisory personnel
- Adhere to company policies and procedures
REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLSRequired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Strong research and analytical abilities.
- Outstanding attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Proficiency with Apple and cloud-based business applications.
- Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel regionally.
Ability to:
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb stairs during inspections.
- Independently lift and carry items up to 30 pounds.
- Travel to/work in residential properties, estates, warehouses, storage facilities, etc. throughout the region.
Preferred Qualifications
- Interest or background in art history, antiques, decorative arts, collectibles, luxury goods, estate services, or related fields. We welcome candidates with other complimentary backgrounds to apply.
- Experience with research-intensive work and report writing.
- Familiarity with appraisal, auction, estate, or valuation industries is a plus but not required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Our primary office location is at ASG headquarters in Fairfield, Connecticut. This position, however, requires regional travel for onsite inspections. Limited work-from-home flexibility may be available when appropriate and approved by management.
This is a full-time position with opportunities for professional growth and advancement, including becoming a Junior Appraiser and beyond within the firm.

Work Days / Hours
This position is primarily Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 5:30, but may require occasional weekend work, as needed to meet appraisal deadlines. Your manager will coordinate scheduling and coverage as needed.
Most work will be performed at client locations and/or at ASG facilities. However, there may be occasions that provide an option to perform some tasks remotely (telecommute). Such occasions are at the sole discretion of management and subject to management approval.
COMPENSATION & EMPLOYEE BENEFITS
This full-time salaried (exempt) position offers an annual salary ranging from $50,000 - $75,000,depending on experience, plus benefits such as health insurance and PTO. The salary is payable in accordance with the Company’s standard weekly payroll schedule.
